As a matter of fact, treatment of the diseases of the vein belongs to vascular surgery. In spite of this, patients often call upon a plastic surgeon. This has two reasons. The disease often appears with an outer form similar to the spider web causing aesthetic problems only. This problem is not reckoned to be an indication for treatment by vascular surgeons, so they do not even deal with these patients. These problems can be treated with plastic interventions well. Some of the patients call upon a plastic surgeon to avoid ugly and long scars remaining if operation is not done by a plastic surgeon.
Thickening of capillaries in the upper layer of the skin is not reckoned to be an illness and it can rarely cause complaints. On the other hand, because of the ugly bluish alterations many women want to get rid of them. Their treatment is possible with laser or sclerosing injections (closing veins).generally, treated veins are closed totally, but later on, after 4-5 years, other veins can appear on new spots and new treatment will be necessary.
Treatment with laser
Light of argon or NdYag laser is absorbed in the haemoglobin and causes closure of capillaries. After the treatment, slight erythema or bluish-green alterations can be seen, which disappear in some days. Veins can be seen for two more weeks, but circulation cannot be felt within them. Capillaries will gradually be closed and absorbed, disappearing unnoticed. Treatment of the thinner branches can be performed efficiently, but branches thicker that 2-3 mm cannot be treated with laser; these are treated with injection or other methods of plastic surgery.
Treatment with injection
Sclerosing injections cause local inflammation within the wall of the capillaries. After treatment, capillaries must be pressed with compression stockings or bandages in order circulation totally ceased. When the circulation ceases in the capillaries, they will closed forever. First the capillaries are treated with injection of diluted medicine; the capillaries will mostly close already. Only the remained capillaries are injected in the second time with more concentrated medicine. This careful way of treatment is recommended in order to prevent any pigmentation in patients with more sensitive skin.
Treatment with plastic surgery
Plastic surgeons can remove otherwise (with laser or injection) not treatable, loose veins with special tools through tiny incisions – just a few millimetres. Tiny incisions will not leave any noticeable marks. With this method, recovery time is shorter and aesthetically better result can be obtained. Plastic methods are not suitable to treat seriously wounded or coloured skin alterations. Don’t neglect your vein disease! Call upon a physician in due time!
